Tubelord & Blakfish

Went to see Tubelord, Blakfish and Mae-Shi at the weekend. Amazing, particularly Blakfish - so much energy! Tubelord were wonderful but I couldn't really witness the fitness, damn being short. Speaking of short, the set was over far too quickly. And Mae-Shi were pretty damn cool too, with the parachute thing, and the guy with the crew-cut at the front trying to get off with the lead singer too. And I got a t-shirt, too - stood right next to the lead singer and couldn't even say anything to him, I think he was looking at me funny anyway, whatever I had done I'd have looked like an idiot (in this instance, it was giving the t-shirt guy several over-enthusiastic thumbs up and grinning like an idiot.

Still.

There was a bit of a rant at the beginning but I took it out because it sounded very silly.

Indie-ish dee-lites.

I love Tubelord.
A lot.
His voice, the various layers of songs, the little climactic bits... Everything. B-E-A-utiful.
And they don't look too shabby, either.
Also, Tokyo Police Club, from Canada. Jaunty indie-type thing.
Tokyo Police Club mp3s.  Jaunty indie.
One more band, well, you've probably heard of them, but their new song, lovely:Bombay Bicycle Club. His voice is just haunting. Listen to 'Always Like This' on their MySpace.
I am in the middle of writing an essay, hence the reason for the blog. Though no-one reads this because no-one knows about it, so it's sort of like the tree falling in the forest. But it still makes a noise, even if no-one hears it. Yep. About detective fiction, it is. I just can't seem to get started.
I've decided I'm going to start a scrapbook, or a journal, if you will. Maybe. I saw this really cool idea, using an old book (containing text already) and drawing/pasting over that. It might be something amazing, if I ever start.
Anyway, back to writing my essay.
'til next time (about 2 weeks then, probably).

Procrastination.

The library is very uninspiring. Yet with few distractions. Yet... The internets is the biggest distraction I could have. Too many people. Too damn popular. Jokes.

I am very angry. I like it here but things make it very difficult to like it here.

Things that happened today.

Class was cancelled.
I got wings.
I got hit on at the mall (like, ohmygod, how stereotypically American)
It rained.
We watched Sliding Doors.
There was a shooting and three people were hospitalised.

Interesting day, huh?

Procrastination.

Well. Supposed to be doing essay about As I Lay Dying. But that has not in fact happened yet. My roomie Ash has fallen asleep reading a book with her arse up in the air. Good times. Listening to Operator Please.

Operator, operator please!
I think my brain has got a disease!

I love shouty songs. As do I love peanut butter crackers. Bloody profound stuff this blog is.

Erm. Went to Chicago at the weekend, that was nice. Watch this space if yr interested: http://alexandpop.livejournal.com/ - well, in the next couple of weeks anyway. Lots to do. Mainly essays and midterms. Urgh.

... I should probably go.

Why...

Everyone picks on me!

No, this is not a whiney emo blog, but everyone ruffles my hair and makes fun of me and I don't know why! Waaaah.

Answer: because I'm small, and 'because I'm Poppy'. Hmph. Informative.

Word of the day: vicious.

Glazed.

So, I thought I would conform to the masses and get a blog. Because I like the way it looks, and I needed somewhere to record my huge feelings because I just don't have enough paper. You cut me, I bleed ink. That's one of mine. Well, one of Howard Moon's, actually...

I was thinking today in my American Lit 2 class, when my teacher was talking about how you can tell what people are like from how they wear their watch. How can you though? All these aptitude tests people take, how do people come up with the definitive answer? Why does everything have to mean anything? Why can't it just be?

Like William Carlos Williams for example. Some people may not class him as a poet, but The Red Wheelbarrow or XXII was a great moment in American Literature, yes, for revoultionising the structural type of the poem and making it a typical American poem but let's just leave it at that shall we... The colour imagery is an American flag. And it doesn't have to be anything more than that, like communism or anything ridiculous like that. It just is. What's interesting that while the poem creates this beautiful image in my mind, the only word, according to Wikipedia (I know) that is purely for aesthetic purposes is glazed. Which makes me think of a doughnut.

so much depends
upon
a red wheel
barrow
glazed with rain
water
beside the white
chickens.
